01 — The builds
One download, rolling out.
macOS
The beta is rolling out now. Seats go out by email until the public link is live on this page.
Want in? Write to support@getskywriter.com and we’ll send you the build.
Windows
Windows follows the Mac beta. Skywriter is built to run on Windows as well as macOS; the installer ships after the Mac rollout.
02 — What you need
A Mac, and room to think.
- A Mac running a current version of macOS.
- Around 1 GB of free disk space for the app.
- For local AI: Ollama, plus enough memory and disk space for the model you choose. Skywriter checks your hardware and suggests a model size that fits — the first-run setup walks you through it.
- No account is needed to write — the free editor asks for nothing. An account is needed to subscribe to Plus or Pro, and signing in the first time is also what starts your free 30 days of Plus.
03 — First flight
The first time you open it.
Skywriter opens on a blank document and offers to set up local AI: it checks whether Ollama is installed, suggests a model that suits your machine, downloads it, and runs a short test so you can see it working before you rely on it. You can skip the whole thing and just write, or point Skywriter at a cloud provider instead, with your own API key or a ChatGPT sign-in. Writing with the model — Skywrite, the AI panel, Skyfill, Templatize — is part of Plus, and your first 30 days of it are free from the moment you sign in.
Local-AI setup sends nothing anywhere except the model download, which comes from Ollama, not from us. Choosing a cloud provider is different by nature: a ChatGPT sign-in opens OpenAI’s authorization page and talks to OpenAI, and an API key is used against the provider you chose.
You can skip the whole thing and just write.
Local AI is an offer, never a requirement
